US Senate Confirms Janine Pirro as US Attorney for Washington, DC

The Senate has voted 50-45 to confirm Janine Pirro, a former judge, as the US Attorney for Washington, DC.

Pirro, previously a host on Fox News, was appointed as the interim US Attorney for DC back in May.

In early May, President Donald Trump announced her appointment as the interim US Attorney for the District of Columbia, highlighting her legal career in New York. He noted that she held significant positions, including serving as a county judge and district attorney—being the first woman to do so in those roles.

“We are thrilled to have Judge Janine Pirro appointed as the interim US attorney for the District of Columbia,” Trump said. He praised her work as a strong advocate for crime victims, and mentioned her establishment of the country’s first domestic violence department in a prosecutor’s office. Pirro is recognized for her qualifications, both in her legal expertise and her years on television, where she hosted the show “Justice with Janine.”

Pirro expressed her gratitude on social media, noting her confirmation as a significant achievement for her career.

However, her confirmation has faced criticism from some senators. Democrats have called attention to her previous defenses of Trump’s claims regarding the 2020 election fraud and her actions surrounding the January 6 Capitol incident. Senators Dick Durbin and Adam Schiff voiced their concerns, labeling Pirro as a mere “rubber stamp” for Trump and calling the confirmation a regrettable moment for the Senate.

Durbin stated that Pirro should not hold the position of a permanent US Attorney, criticizing her past statements and actions related to the January 6 events. Schiff echoed these views, expressing disappointment over Pirro’s confirmation.
