Senate committee subpoenas Massport over migrants at Boston airport

Exclusive: The Senate Commerce Committee chair has summoned the Massachusetts Port Authority for documents requested last year related to the evacuation of immigrants at Boston Logan International Airport, calling the practice “reckless and offensive.”

Senator R-Texas, chair of the Senate Commerce Committee, intends to summon Masport for Republican documents on the committee.

“Donald Trump has stopped Biden's open border policy, but a full investigation into the scandal is essential to prevent future reemergence and hold him accountable for complicit in Biden's lawless immigration order.” Cruz told Fox News Digital.

In a letter last March, lawmakers pointed to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants received by Logan, saying one such funding obligation is that the facilities can use publicly. They alleged that the use of facilities to house migrants was in violation of the condition.

The migrants were camped at the airport daily on the floor of Terminal E at the height of the immigration crisis, and the migrants immediately traveled to “sanctuary” cities that restricted cooperation with the ice.

“Frankly, what you saw with Logan is the situation, and this is why we said a few months ago that we were at our capacity here,” Gov. Maura Healy said in January 2024. He spoke.

In July, immigrants were banned from using the airport as a shelter and instead provided taxpayer-funded accommodation elsewhere.

“As of July 9, 2024, there was a policy change in which immigrant families could no longer stay in Logan overnight and none of them had stayed in Logan since,” a spokesman for Massport on Monday said Fox News He told Digital.

Commerce Committee lawmakers wanted to know how many migrants were being housed, the associated costs, capacity impacts, screening information and how port authorities were reimbursed. However, the committee says it has not received a response.

A committee aide told Fox News Digital that the committee has summoned documents and communications related to Logan's illegal immigrant home, including communications with government agencies, nonprofits and healthcare providers. He spoke. They also seek documents relating to security incidents involving immigrants and identifying those involved in detaining them.

“As the investigation has already shown, Masport clearly violated the requirements of the FAA grant when he used Logan International Airport as a 'free' home for illegal aliens,” Cruz told FOX .

“Massport has repeatedly denied the committee's request for information, including potential security cases. As chairman of the committee that has jurisdiction over civil aviation and aviation security, I will issue a subpoena to enforce Massport. I'm planning on doing that. I've been looking for it for almost a year,” he said.

“Using federally funded public airports to house illegal foreigners was reckless and uncomfortable for airline passengers and American taxpayers,” he said.

The subpoena comes when the Trump administration takes a proactive approach to cracking down on illegal immigration. Internal enforcement, including sanctuary cities like Boston, is increasing, limiting the ability to release immigrants inside. They also deployed the military to the border and ended the use of Biden-era parole to free migrants.

Internal arrests have increased, but border intersections have fallen sharply, causing the administration to fall under the influence of new policies.
