Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) expresses her desire for Democrats nationwide to concentrate on how to “seize the flag” from President Trump and the Republican majorities in Congress, emphasizing the necessity to move past a certain media outlet’s view of the party as “weak and awakened.”
“If we are not aligned in our direction, we lack a consistent strategy.” She stated to Politico prior to delivering a “war plan” address at a democratic volunteer event in her hometown this Thursday.
Slotkin, whose campaign team did not reply promptly to the Hill’s inquiry, shared images on Social Platform X mentioning that after a gathering at the Re Olds Transportation Museum in Lansing, Michigan, she aspires to utilize her speech to “outline my strategy on how to navigate this historical moment for our country.”
“Following this 100-day Trump administration, we owe a strategy to our constituents. We will reclaim the battle for patriotism, propose a genuine economic plan for the middle class, and establish a democracy that acknowledges their interests,” she remarked.
According to a draft of the speech prior to its delivery, Politico suggests Slotkin detailed the factors that led to Democrats experiencing a significant decline last year, targeting a segment of local voters who criticized her as “weak and awakened.”
Slotkin, who offered Democrats a defiant response to Trump’s address to Congress in March, is expected to deliver another speech regarding the party’s future in the upcoming month, according to Politico.
“I believe there’s no reason to disguise the reality that Trump is overflowing with zones and presents us with 12 different scenarios simultaneously,” she conveyed to the outlet.
Democrats have found it challenging to achieve consensus on how to advance following Trump’s return to the White House in January. A decrease in contributions from Democratic donors was noted due to grievances about the party’s current condition, as reported by the Hill in February.
After striving to limit Trump’s influence following the 2016 election win, Democrats have struggled to find common ground this time, facing difficulties in managing the divide between traditional Democrats and those advocating for progressive expansion.
A poll from last month indicated that the Democratic brand has reached its lowest point ever among voters.
