Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Grassley: Biden's FBI focused on the personal cell phones of 8 GOP senators in the 'Arctic Frost' investigation

FBI’s Surveillance of Republican Senators Sparks Controversy

Recently uncovered FBI documents reveal that under the Biden administration, the agency targeted the personal mobile phones of eight Republican senators and one House member, as noted by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley. This action was part of an investigation known as “Arctic Frost.”

This investigation seemingly laid the groundwork for Jack Smith’s election-related lawsuit concerning former President Donald Trump. According to the documents, the bureau collected “travel data” dating back to January 4, 2021, which included details about call times, durations, and general locations.

“The crazy Jack Smith was caught by hand in a cookie jar. A real three bag!!!” Trump remarked in a social media post regarding the situation.

Grassley pointed out that FBI agents used taxpayer funds to carry out numerous interviews related to these political investigations. He stated that this was initiated by a former anti-Trump agent and passed on to Jack Smith.

The senators affected include Lindsey Graham, Bill Hagerty, Josh Hawley, Dan Sullivan, Tommy Tuberville, Ron Johnson, and Representative Mike Kelly. In response to the situation, Senator Marsha Blackburn emphasized that it’s notable that all targeted individuals are Republicans.

However, the rationale behind targeting these specific senators remains unclear.

Grassley criticized the surveillance, labeling it a “serious violation of constitutional rights” and drawing parallels to the Watergate scandal. He called for further investigations to assess accountability for the FBI’s actions.

He stated that the American public deserves clarity, and the Justice Department should explain why these lawmakers’ communications were compromised in this investigation.

The Arctic Frost Survey initially aimed to scrutinize efforts by the Democratic Party following Trump’s 2024 election victory. Yet, Smith later dismissed the notion of Trump’s attempts to overturn the election, unable to find sufficient evidence of intent to instigate violence during the January 6 events.

This recent FBI revelation has intensified scrutiny on Biden’s management of sensitive political investigations, highlighting the ongoing struggle to balance national security and the privacy rights of elected officials.

Grassley contended, “Based on previous evidence, the Arctic Frost and related abuses of federal law enforcement under Biden have surpassed Watergate in severity.”

He described the FBI’s actions as unconstitutional, insisting that both the Attorney General and the FBI Director be held accountable for their misconduct. Grassley also noted that internal investigations often take time, but recent findings underscore the significance of Congressional oversight and whistleblower testimonies.
