Senate Republican: GOP members are overlooking Musk

Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) has brushed aside tech billionaire Elon Musk’s threat regarding a significant opponent to Republicans supporting President Trump’s extensive tax and spending measures, which are expected to pass in the House early Thursday.

Marshall mentioned in an interview with Nicholas Balasy that he and fellow GOP members are “ignoring” Musk’s comments.

When asked about Musk’s statements, the Kansas senator declared, “I support President Trump any day over Elon’s criticisms.”

He stated, “We need to pass this bill to align with President Trump’s objectives. His focus has always been on securing borders and restoring economic stability.” He added, “If we can achieve prosperity and security, we’ll likely see re-election.”

“Elon is just causing a bit of unease,” the senator remarked. “We’re not letting that deter us. Let’s get this bill across the finish line.”

Musk expressed his backing for a major challenger to Republicans supporting Trump’s agenda, claiming it could be “political suicide” for the party. He has also indicated he would contribute to lawmakers who oppose the administration, including Representative Thomas Massey (R-KY).

The billionaire, who stepped down from his role as an advisor to the Trump administration in late May, has openly criticized aspects of the Biden administration’s energy tax credits.

Balasy questioned Marshall about potential concerns regarding the substantial funds Musk could direct toward these major challenges.

“I’m not dwelling on that today,” the senator replied. “It may pose challenges in certain states, but here in Kansas, not so much. Trump remains quite popular in many of these regions.”

Despite the ongoing public disagreement between Trump and Musk, Marshall believes it isn’t a long-term issue, tracing back to Musk’s opposition to the “big and beautiful bill.”

“We should try to bring Elon into the fold,” he suggested. “He’s intelligent and contributes significantly to our economy. We need to find a way to reintegrate him.”
