Bernie Moreno Criticizes Super Bowl Halftime Show Choice
Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) recently shared his thoughts on Bad Bunny being selected for the upcoming Super Bowl LX halftime show, framing it as a political issue.
In a video interview with independent journalist Nicholas Barassy, Moreno questioned, “Why would you choose anyone else to perform at our biggest sporting event, you know? That makes no sense at all. I thought that guy’s appearance on ‘Saturday Night Live’ was a disgrace to the country.”
He emphasized that the game should symbolize “unification and uniting the country,” expressing disappointment in the NFL’s decision. Moreno stated, “The NFL made a decision that was clearly partisan, and it shouldn’t have made it. I hope they reverse course and bring in a great American performer who can instill pride. What they did was essentially a choice influenced by Trump supporters.”
Bad Bunny, known as a leading artist on platforms like Spotify, has faced backlash from Trump supporters ever since his halftime show announcement. His recent appearance on “Saturday Night Live” had him joking about how “Fox News” reacted to his selection.
Many conservative commentators have criticized his political stance and the fact that most of his music is in Spanish. Bad Bunny has taken his tours outside the continental United States in response to concerns about federal immigration enforcement affecting his fans.
While White House officials mentioned his planned performance at the Super Bowl, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt indicated that there are “no concrete plans” yet.
President Trump commented on Bad Bunny during a phone interview with Newsmax, stating, “I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy. They blame the promoters they hire to pick up the entertainment.”
Bad Bunny is following a trend of notable artists at the Super Bowl halftime show, with past performances by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez in 2020, and Kendrick Lamar taking the stage in 2024 alongside other big names in recent years.
