A bipartisan group of senators has proposed a new child care measure that would expand an assistance program that gives employers up to $150,000 in tax credits to help employees with childcare costs.
Senator Michael Bennet (D-Colorado) keep pushing A bill to support childcare costs for working families over several years. This time, he teamed up with Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.).
“Many families in Tennessee and across America struggle to find reliable, affordable child care,” Blackburn said in a statement to The Hill. We need to encourage them to invest in.”
“The Child Care Act for American Families will help ease the financial burden of child care costs by expanding and modernizing employer-provided child care tax credits.”
Their proposal would prioritize incentives for businesses in rural and low-income areas when it comes to providing on-site child care to employees.
The bill would provide up to $1.2 million in annual tax credits, depending on the size of the employer.
Republicans and Democrats have long advocated expanding tax cuts to lower costs for families.
“Everywhere in Colorado, parents say they can't find quality child care. And even if they can, they can't afford it. We are working across the aisle to ease the burden on our families,'' Bennett told The Hill in a statement.
“We appreciate Sen. Blackburn’s partnership on this important bill to expand access to reliable, affordable child care in Colorado, Tennessee, and every corner of our country.”
