Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian reveals Lyme disease diagnosis despite no symptoms

Alexis Ohanian, husband of Serena Williams and founder of Reddit, has been diagnosed with Lyme disease.

The father-of-two, 41, revealed his struggles with health issues when doctors told him his diagnosis after undergoing a full-body scan.

“I went through all the medical exams and tests and stuff and found out I had Lyme disease,” he said. I wrote to X Tuesday.

“Wild. Thankfully I have no symptoms but I need treatment. Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is okay. I need to work on improving it. On the plus side, total cholesterol 822 ng/dL, free testosterone 162 ng/dL.”

Lyme disease is a disease caused by the Borrelia bacterium. Mayo ClinicLyme disease is usually contracted by being bitten by a tick that carries the bacteria.

Early symptoms of Lyme disease include headache, flu-like symptoms, joint pain, fatigue and sometimes a rash. Centers for Disease Control.

“I had a loved one who had this disease a few years ago. [of] “I had symptoms and things like that and didn’t know what was causing it until I got tested and found out (and was successfully treated),” he added.

Still, Ohanian isn’t letting the diagnosis get him down.

“Anyway, I’m going to take some antibiotics. I’m nervous, Chick!”

Ohanian later urged his 500,000 followers on the platform to seek medical advice if they had any questions about their illness.

“Consult your doctor,” he wrote. “Don’t ask me for health advice!”

According to the CDC, more than 470,000 Americans are diagnosed with Lyme disease each year.

The agency added that most cases “can be treated with a 10-14 day course of antibiotics.”

Ohanian joins a growing list of stars who have spoken publicly about their struggles with the disease, including Justin Bieber, Bella Hadid and her mother Yolanda, Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne and Amy Schumer.

Ohanian’s health update comes just days after he appeared on the red carpet at the 2024 ESPY Awards with his famous wife and daughter, Olympia.

Williams, who served as emcee at this year’s star-studded ceremony, presented a number of awards during the July 11 ceremony, including the Pat Tillman Award for service to Prince Harry, the husband of her good friend Meghan Markle.
