Sergio Garcia breaks his driver in the final round of The Open

Sergio Garcia faced a challenging final round at the Open Championship on Sunday. He recorded a score of 68, placing him tied for 34th alongside players like Aaron Ly, John Lahm, Justin Thomas, Christian Bezidenhout, and Lee Westwood, finishing the tournament at 3 under par. Interestingly, Garcia completed his round without a driver, which caught the attention of fellow golfers.

During the second hole of his round, Garcia accidentally broke his driver. Despite this setback, he managed to score a birdie on that hole and achieved five birdies overall. According to the rules, he couldn’t replace his club mid-round, which is a pretty strict rule in golf.

After the round, Garcia shared his thoughts on the incident. He mentioned that he didn’t think he did anything particularly wrong with that second tee shot. “Honestly, I didn’t feel like I made a big mistake,” he noted. “I just swiped it and was surprised the shaft snapped. I’ve done that countless times without breaking a club before.”

Scotty Schaeffler won the Open Championship this time. Garcia’s finish in 34th place was his best showing in major tournaments this season, having previously missed the cut at the Masters and finished 68th in the PGA Championship. Which, you know, isn’t his usual level. It’s a bit of a mixed bag for him lately.
