Funeral services are set for the Irish fashion designer found dead earlier this month aboard a boat at the Montauk Yacht Club.
Martha Nolan Oslatala, who was 33, will have a service at 10 a.m. at the Assumption Cathedral in her hometown of Carlow, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, as reported by the Irish Independent.
She left Carlow, located about 50 miles from Dublin, in 2018 for New York City, where she initially worked as a bottle service girl in Soho before establishing a successful career in design.
In New York, she co-founded East X East, a swimwear brand, along with a fashion accessories company called Duper, which allowed her to thrive enough to enjoy the summer season in the Hamptons.
On August 5, Suffolk County police were alerted via a 911 call to the Montauk Yacht Club, where they found Nolan Oslatala unresponsive on a boat named “Ripple.”
Authorities mentioned there were no signs of foul play, and her death is being examined as a possible accidental drug overdose, though her family has requested a deeper investigation.
Nolan Oslatala was academically accomplished, having earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from University College, Dublin, and a master’s in digital marketing from the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate School in 2014.
Reflecting on her career, she once stated, “I wanted to be successful. It’s money-driven, business-driven; fashion is a tough industry, and it’s going to be a slower path,” during an interview with The Independent last year.
Her obituary noted that she is survived by her loving mother and her partner Patrick, her sister, uncle, extended family, and a large circle of friends in both Ireland and the U.S.
