Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Seth Joyner reached out to ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes on Tuesday. During a segment of ESPN’s “NFL Live,” Kimes discussed the Eagles’ offense from the previous season and mentioned that USC wide receiver Makai Lemon would address many of the noticeable gaps in their play. Joyner responded with a tweet that simply read, “Gap?”
In the tweet, Joyner elaborated on his thoughts, referencing the injuries affecting the offensive line and expressing concern about offensive coordinator Kevin Pattullo, who was let go after the season. He also touched on the situation surrounding disgruntled wide receiver AJ Brown, noting that Brown was subsequently traded to the New England Patriots following Lemon’s selection at No. 20 in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Joyner compared Brown and Lemon, stating they possess different skill sets. While Brown is known for his prowess in the red zone as a target for 50/50 balls, Lemon, as a slot receiver, is seen as a potentially valuable asset for offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. He remarked, “Everyone suspects Lemon will unlock the middle of the field, but he will not replicate AJ’s productivity, as they are fundamentally different receivers.”
Kimes expressed some confusion regarding Joyner’s comments, asking him to clarify what he disagreed with. She mentioned that her perspective was that Lemon wouldn’t mimic Brown’s performance, but could enhance the middle of the field and yards after catch (YAC), areas the Eagles had struggled with.
Joyner countered, insisting that the real gaps in the Eagles’ offense stemmed from issues like an injured offensive line, questionable play-calling, and a weak run game. He acknowledged that there was a discussion to be had regarding AJ’s usage and that he agreed Lemon could assist quarterback Jalen Hurts in the new offensive strategy.
In his junior year at USC, Lemon excelled primarily as a slot receiver, achieving career highs with 89 catches, 14 touchdowns, and 1,156 yards, and amassing 502 of those yards after the catch.
