Seth Rollins takes the World Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk at SummerSlam 2025

Rollins Reveals Intentions Against CM Punk

Seth Rollins recently shared that during CM Punk’s return to WWE nearly two years ago, he vowed to do everything he could to prevent Punk from winning another world title.

Initially, Rollins found it hard to uphold that promise. CM Punk made a significant comeback by defeating Gunter to claim the World Heavyweight Championship—a title that had eluded him for over a decade. Unfortunately, the triumph was short-lived, as the celebrations were cut abruptly short.

At WWE’s 2025 SummerSlam, held at MetLife Stadium on August 2, Rollins’s entrance music resonated through the crowd, igniting excitement among the fans. Paul Heyman held the Money in the Bank briefcase, while Rollins appeared to communicate that he was still battling injuries from an earlier incident involving La Knight. However, he soon decided to abandon his crutches and braces.

For a dramatic finish, he rushed to the ring with the briefcase, delivering multiple blows to Punk before executing a decisive stomp. Rollins successfully pinned Punk, reclaiming the championship.

Rollins’s victory came after an electrifying match between Punk and Gunther, where both competitors showcased their exceptional skills. Their bout, set as the main event, was intense from the get-go. Punk, who referred to himself as “the best in the world,” aimed to leave New Jersey as the champion, but Gunther was determined to prove he was the premier talent of this WWE generation.

The clash was brutal, with both grapplers exchanging powerful blows. Gunther maintained a methodical, harsh approach against Punk, who displayed impressive resilience as he repeatedly fought back against onslaughts of clotheslines and power bombs.

The crowd fervently rallied behind Punk, eagerly anticipating his resurgence. However, Gunther managed to inflict more damage even outside the ring. In a surprising turn, when Gunther let his guard down, Punk took the opportunity to trip him, catching fans off guard.

Although Punk briefly lost ground, he managed to fight back when Gunther put him in a precarious position. After attempting multiple submission holds, Punk’s persistence paid off; he locked in his signature move not once, but twice.

While Punk had secured the World Heavyweight Championship by pinning Gunther, Rollins’s cunning manipulation of the Money in the Bank opportunity led to his ultimate triumph. Now, Rollins stands as a two-time world heavyweight champion.
