Stabbing Incident Near Penn Station in New York City

A suspect is in custody following a stabbing incident near Penn Station in New York City on Sunday night, which left multiple people injured, with one seriously hurt, according to authorities.

The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) reported that emergency responders were sent to West 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue at around 7:02 p.m. after receiving alerts about a person stabbing multiple individuals.

In total, six civilians were hurt—one suffered serious injuries, while two sustained moderate injuries, and three others had minor injuries.

Five victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital; one had serious injuries, and two were in moderate condition. Another individual with minor injuries was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Amtrak police, who are overseeing the investigation, confirmed the suspect is in custody.

“Earlier this afternoon, Amtrak Police responded to reports of a stabbing at New York Penn Station,” stated Amtrak. “The suspect has been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing.”

The New York City Police Department directed inquiries regarding the incident to Amtrak Police. The details surrounding the stabbing remain unclear, and no information on the suspect or motive has been disclosed.

This unfortunate event happened amid a busy time for New York City’s transportation system, as large crowds were navigating Penn Station, influenced by ongoing NBA Finals games and an influx of tourists arriving for the upcoming FIFA World Cup events.
