Several individuals taken to hospital following gunfire at a family-oriented festival in Ohio

In Ohio on Saturday, two gunmen exchanged fire at a family festival, resulting in over a dozen injuries, according to reports and officials.

The Toledo Police reported responding to the situation around 5:40 p.m. at the Old West End Festival.

Footage from the scene captured at least 16 gunshots, causing chaos as attendees screamed and sought shelter.

Toledo’s Mayor Wade Kapuszkiewicz initially indicated that eight individuals were shot, all with injuries that were not life-threatening. But later updates revealed that the number had increased to 12, including two in critical condition, with the victims’ ages spanning from 14 to 61.

Kevin Berry, who was enjoying the festival, recalled hearing the gunfire while relaxing at a nearby arboretum.

In another unsettling video, a man was seen walking down the street in a bloody white shirt, having been shot in the torso. Witnesses attempted to assure him and call for medical help as he lay down on the grass waiting for assistance.

Other graphic footage depicted first responders rushing to assist, urgently transporting wounded festival-goers to ambulances.

Berry noted that police, already present at the event, quickly converged on the area, and he even observed a firearm discarded nearby.

Reports suggested that the shooting resulted from a confrontation between two assailants, both of whom fled the scene and remain at large.

Deputy Chief Heffernan commented that the two were likely targeting each other, while Detective Lt. Dan Gerken labeled the incident as exceptionally violent during a press briefing.

Following the shooting, roads surrounding the festival were shut down, though the event was set to continue over the weekend.

The Toledo Police directed inquiries to their social media pages for more information.

The festival, which highlights the Old West End neighborhood—one of the largest historic districts in the U.S.—features live music, food, art, and shopping.

The Old West End Association, the event’s organizer, did not respond to requests for comments.
