Sexual violence against women in prisons: 'Harsh and atypical punishment'

Concerns Over Human Rights in Prisons

Civil rights attorney Harmeet Dhillon has raised issues regarding human rights violations that she believes are being overlooked, specifically incidents involving male inmates identifying as women assaulting female prisoners.

The title of a recent article states, “Mass women’s prisons are ‘heavens for sexual predators pretending to be transgender,'” highlighting alarming reports from Massachusetts where women who reported rape were punished for coming forward.

“After seeing reports out of Massachusetts, we initiated a federal civil rights investigation into similar issues,” Dhillon noted. “Colorado is currently investigating prison conditions under the Prison Reform Act, including problems related to transgender violence and the treatment of elderly inmates.”

She asserted, “There are some truly horrific accounts. I firmly believe that no one, regardless of gender, should face rape in American prisons. Serving time doesn’t mean enduring cruel and unusual punishment. That definitely includes violent attacks.”

Stuckey added, “Being forced to share close quarters with a man is not just unfair; it’s downright cruel.”

Dhillon expressed her worries regarding transgender matters in prisons, mentioning that many self-identified Christians seem to advocate for the most vulnerable. Yet, she feels progressives often neglect other vulnerable groups—like unborn children and incarcerated women who lack a voice regarding their safety.

“Progressives show blatant hypocrisy here. Some voices on the left, like JK Rowling, have even distanced themselves from this movement. Just recently, she publicly stated that no one should be subjected to rape in prison or face violations of human dignity,” Dhillon explained.

“It might sound obvious, but the hypocrisy on this issue is staggering. It seems the feminist movement has completely lost sight of its fundamental principles,” she continued.
