Sha'Carri Richardson taken into custody for reportedly exceeding 100 mph while driving in Florida

U.S. Olympic sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested on Thursday in Florida for allegedly speeding. Reports indicate she was driving at an alarming 164 mph, overtaking other vehicles dangerously.

This incident adds to a growing list of controversies surrounding the gold medalist. Just last August, she was arrested at Seattle-Tacoma Airport on charges of assault involving her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman.

Footage from that incident showed Richardson approaching Coleman and apparently attempting to grab her backpack, which led to a confrontation. She seemed to push him against a wall, nudging him multiple times during the altercation.

As they were escorted away, it appeared the two exchanged words, with Richardson leaning in and reaching for his face. Coleman reportedly declined to identify himself as a victim in this situation.

Earlier this year, in January, Richardson had a separate incident where an argument with a flight attendant resulted in her removal from a plane, which she described as disrespectful treatment.

Back in 2021, she faced a ban from the Tokyo Olympics due to a positive test for THC, a substance found in marijuana. She accepted a month-long suspension from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, leading to her disqualification from the 100 meters, and she wasn’t invited to join the 4×100 relay team.

However, she made a comeback during the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning gold in the women’s 4×100 relay and earning silver in the 100 meters.
