Timberwolves Dominate Thunder in Game 3
The Timberwolves landed a significant blow on Saturday night, leaving the Thunder reeling after a resounding 143-101 defeat.
Shay Gilgeous-Alexander, the star player for Oklahoma City and recent MVP, stated that it’s crucial for title contenders to demonstrate resilience under pressure. “You’ll get hit, but it’s about standing back up. That’s the real challenge,” he remarked following the game.
Gilgeous-Alexander expressed that this loss felt like a direct hit. “I got punched in the mouth today. Next game, we either respond or we don’t. Losing like this makes us reconsider some things,” he added.
As the Thunder prepares for Game 4 on Monday, the team has some soul-searching to do after this significant defeat.
The sharp drop in energy and focus from his team was a major concern for Gilgeous-Alexander. The 42-point loss had a noticeable impact on the overall mood of the series, especially since Oklahoma City had initially seemed strong in their first two home games.
Minnesota broke out to a commanding lead early, going up by 20 points after the first quarter and extending it to 31 by halftime. Their momentum didn’t wane, either, as they dominated through the second half.
According to Gilgeous-Alexander, Minnesota’s early intensity with offensive rebounds and energy set the tone. “We just didn’t match that level of focus. They played with urgency; we didn’t,” he commented. “When facing a strong team, it becomes evident quickly.”
Thunder head coach Mark Dean acknowledged, “They definitely came out swinging.”
Another issue for the Thunder was their lack of defense, which made it hard to mount a comeback. After allowing 88 and 103 points in the first two games, the Thunder struggled to contain the Timberwolves, who shot an impressive 57.3% overall and 50% beyond the arc.
