ShamWow Pitchman Vince Shlomi Files for Congress

Vince Shlomi, a 61-year-old Israeli-born television spokesperson known for selling absorbent towels, has officially filed to run for Congress as a Republican.

He aims to challenge the current Republican Representative John Carter, who has held his position in Texas’ 31st Congressional District since 2003.

Shlomi expresses a mix of ambitions and concerns about his campaign, stating, “I hope I don’t make another mistake.”

He has made headlines recently for controversial comments regarding the influence of the “woke church” on children, denouncing issues like identity politics and children’s rights. In one video, he stands in front of a building painted in rainbow colors and proclaims, “No more. We’re not chopping nuts. We’re going to learn to love nuts with the Shamwow guy.”

This reference to “nuts” draws a parallel to debates about child genital mutilation and recalls his infamous line from the “Slap Chop” infomercial, where he enthusiastically said, “With Slap Chop, you’re going to love my nuts.”

Currently based in Los Angeles, Shlomi serves as the president and CEO of Square One Entertainment. His motivation for running stems from a desire to combat what he describes as “Wakeism,” alongside a comment regarding conservative figure Charlie Kirk, whom he refers to as the original “Wake Buster.”

In a recent music video titled “Woke Busters,” Shlomi addresses topics like the presence of men in women’s spaces, the Me Too movement, and cancel culture, signaling his stance on various modern issues.

While Shlomi’s new venture as a “culture warrior” might connect with certain voters, he also faces scrutiny over his past. For instance, he had a notable incident in February 2009 when he was arrested for the alleged assault of a prostitute at a Miami Beach hotel.

Reports from that event reveal that after kissing the woman he had met previously, a confrontation ensued, leading Shlomi to claim he acted in self-defense. Although the case faced drops from prosecutors, it left a mark on his reputation.

In a separate legal matter, a former assistant once accused him of stalking and emotional abuse, describing unwarranted advances and an unusual proposition to buy her eggs.

Shlomi has attempted to distance himself from these controversies, stating in 2013 that he was working to improve himself, claiming, “People understand that you make mistakes in life.”

He concluded with a hint of hope, “I hope I don’t make the mistake again.”

At this point, Shlomi has not formally announced his candidacy to the Federal Election Commission.
