Shannon Sharpe discusses his dismissal from ESPN

Shannon Sharpe Responds Following ESPN Exit

Shannon Sharpe shared his thoughts after news broke on Wednesday regarding his departure from ESPN, expressing that he was “at peace” with the situation.

Earlier that day, Andrew Marchand from The Athletic reported on Sharpe’s exit, which was tied to discussions surrounding his “Nightcap” podcast.

While Sharpe was aware that his time at ESPN was ending, he had hoped the announcement would be postponed until after his brother, Sterling Sharpe, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame that weekend.

However, plans didn’t unfold as he wished. “I found out a bit earlier this week, and I really asked, ‘Can we wait until Monday? My brother is getting inducted,’” he said. “I just thought, if news drops now, it’ll overshadow everything he’s worked for. But sadly, it didn’t happen as I hoped.”

He expressed regret for the timing and even apologized to his brother about the situation.

In the backdrop, it’s worth noting that the former Super Bowl winner was involved in a civil lawsuit related to serious allegations, which he has categorically denied through his legal team.

Sharpe left ESPN in April but reflected on his time there positively. “I truly enjoyed my time at ESPN—they enabled me to connect with fans and grow,” he shared in a recent podcast episode. “They did what they thought they had to do, and I’m okay with that. It’s just unfortunate the news overshadowed my brother’s achievement.”

In his podcast, he made a point to apologize to his brother once more, emphasizing the personal nature of the moment.

At 57, Sharpe had transitioned to ESPN from FS1 in 2023 and took part in “First Take.” Along with “Nightcap,” he also hosts the “Club Shay Shay” podcast.
