Shannon Sharp returned to Twitter on Saturday night, his first post since The Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel first reported on Wednesday that the Hall of Fame tight end was leaving FS1’s Undisputed.
‘Watch the seeds I’m sowing’ Three-time Super Bowl winner tweetedthere are also some behind-the-scenes photos of the crew filming Sharpe in gardening outfits.
Although Saturday’s tweet was the first since the news broke, Sharp has “liked” several tweets criticizing Bayless in recent days.
Sharp, 54, and Fox Sports have reached a buyout agreement to end their “Undisputed” partnership with Skip Bayless after the 2023 NBA Finals.
Sharp’s podcast, “Club Shay Shay,” is also exiting Fox Sports.
The breakup may not have come as a surprise to many, as there was obvious tension between him and co-host Skip Bayless.
Former FS1 host Marcellus Wiley summed up the issue as a “power struggle” between the two that had built up as Sharp’s popularity grew based on podcast views and social media engagement. It is said that
“Shannon’s more pop’n, Skip, than you,” Wiley said.
But, according to Wiley, Bayless “runs that show and will always run that show,” and with that power can’t change anything.
Things seemed to reach a boiling point in January when Bills safety Dumar Hamlin collapsed on the field against the Bengals when Sharp was shaken by a tweet Bayless posted shortly after Hamlin went into cardiac arrest. .
“There’s no doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game, but how are they going to do it? Late in the season, a game of this magnitude is critical to the regular season outcome…and then suddenly… seems too irrelevant.” bayless wrote January 2nd.
Mr. Bayless’s tweet caused such a stir that Mr. Sharp stayed at home the next morning and missed the show.
He returned a day later and wished Bayless had deleted the tweet, but nothing happened.
It’s unclear what direction “Undisputed” will take after Sharp exits this month. The NBA Finals could end as early as June 9 and as late as June 18.
Several industry insiders have commented on the situation, one of them being Steven A. Smith, who previously worked with Bayless on First Take.
He gives Mr. Sharp an olive branch and believes Mr. Sharp will be gone.
“This is a huge loss for the show Undisputed because Shannon is important, and I don’t know what his plans are, what he’s going after, what he’s looking for. , If Shannon Sharp needs me, I’m happy to be here for him,” Smith said on the podcast. “And if that includes him wanting to be on ‘First Take,’ the bosses know I’m going to support it.”
