Shaping the Future of Olympic Sport: Task Force to Tackle Groundbreaking Transgender Policy

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is launching an investigation into the “transgender issues” of sports participation in the 2028 games taking place in Los Angeles.

According to IOC President Kirsty Coventry, they are creating a task force to address the protection of transgender issues and women’s categories, with a decision to be made collectively with the International Boxing Association (IBA).

Coventry made history by becoming the first woman and African to lead the IOC, and is committed to working with President Trump on transgender movement concerns.

Trump has signed executive orders prohibiting transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports, while maintaining the gender of service members, declaring the country, and recognizing only two genders: male and female.

Coventry previously oversaw the gender eligibility dispute in a Paris match between female boxers Iman Kelif and Lin Yu Ching, who were initially disqualified due to their testosterone test results.

The Zimbabwean will serve an eight-year presidential position, which will expire in 2033.

She is a former Olympic swimmer and had been a member of the IOC Athlete Committee since 2013.
