Shaquille O’Neal Supports Aspiring Texas Police Officer

Shaquille O’Neal, a Hall of Famer with an impressive record of 3,026 assists in the NBA, has made a noteworthy contribution beyond his basketball career. O’Neal is currently helping Jordan Wilmore, a fellow former pro basketball player, pursue his dream of becoming the tallest police officer in Texas. Interestingly, both of them stand over seven feet tall, with O’Neal at 7-foot-1 and Wilmore towering at 7-foot-3.

Wilmore aspired to join the police force in Kemah, Texas, but recently fell short on the state peace officer exam, scoring 69, just one point shy of the passing mark. Despite the setback, he plans to retake the exam. “I was initially down about it, but I’m still young. If I don’t pass, I can recover quickly. I won’t give up too soon,” he stated.

The local Police Chief, Raymond Garibay, expressed admiration for Wilmore’s persistence. He mentioned that in his 34 years of experience, he’s seen many give up after a failure. “But that’s not Wilmore’s case; he wants to serve,” Garibay noted.

After learning of Wilmore’s ambitions to become a police officer, O’Neal reached out and offered to support him in his next attempt at the police academy. Once Wilmore passes, he has plans to get a custom-car that accommodates his height. “I’m really thankful for Shaquille’s mentorship and support,” Wilmore remarked.

It’s worth noting that O’Neal himself is a certified peace officer and understands the challenges involved. He reflected on his own journey, sharing that it took him several years to graduate from the L.A. Sheriff’s Academy.
