Fans Honor Ozzy Osbourne in Emotional Farewell
The Osborne family recently bid a heartfelt farewell to their legendary patriarch, Ozzy Osbourne, known to many as “The Prince of Darkness.” This emotional gathering took place in their hometown of Birmingham, England, where they celebrated his remarkable life.
Ozzy had been battling Parkinson’s disease since his diagnosis in June 2019. His family shared in their statement, “We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne passed away this morning. He was surrounded by family and love, and we ask that everyone respects our privacy during this difficult time.” The statement included names of his closest kin, Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Amy, and Louis.
On the day of the funeral, a large crowd of fans filled the streets of Birmingham to pay their final respects to the iconic frontman of Black Sabbath. The atmosphere was lively as the local Bostimb Brass Band performed classic hits from Black Sabbath, accompanied by a line of police motorcycles.
Sharon, along with their children Kelly, Jack, and Amy, joined the public mourning, visibly affected by their loss. Ozzy’s older son, Louis, 50, was also there to honor his father’s legacy from his previous marriage to Thelma Riley.
The family, dressed in black, greeted fans as they arrived for the poignant farewell. Sharon, aged 72, was seen wearing a cherished ring around her neck, believed to be Ozzy’s wedding ring. Emotional moments unfolded as she embraced her daughter, Kelly, and consoled her son, Jack, in front of a tribute to the heavy metal legend.
Kelly, meanwhile, shared touching moments with her fiancé Sid Wilson and their two-year-old son. Although often private, Ozzy’s daughter Amy made an appearance despite rarely being seen publicly, especially since her family’s reality show, The Osbournes, aired from 2002 to 2005.
Notably absent were Ozzy’s daughter Jessica and adopted son Elliot Kingsley from his first marriage. The procession, organized by the Birmingham City Council, wound through Broad Street, a fitting tribute for a musician so integral to the city.
Several of Ozzy’s former bandmates from Black Sabbath—Terrence “Geezer” Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward—also showed up to honor their longtime friend and collaborator. Additionally, Sir Elton John and rapper Yombled were reported as attendees of a private service held earlier.
Reflecting back, Ozzy once shared his unconventional desires for his funeral in 2011. He expressed that he simply wanted it to be a celebration and joked about including some light-hearted pranks. “I want to make sure it’s a celebration, not a Moopfest,” he had said, alluding to the desire for it to be memorable.
In Birmingham, there exists a bridge named after Ozzy—”Ozzy Osbourne Bridge.” It stands near a prominent site honoring him, situated close to the Black Sabbath Bench, a place where many remember the star.
Just two weeks before his death, Ozzy performed his final concert for a crowd of 42,000 fans at Villa Park in Birmingham.
As mourners continued to gather, many carried signs and memorabilia in tribute, hoping to share their love and respect for the late rock icon with his family during this poignant moment.
