Boxer Christy Martin has stepped up to support actress Sydney Sweeney after Ruby Rose criticized her, calling Sweeney a “cretin” and claiming she “ruined” Martin’s biopic, Christie. “I want to make it clear who Sid is. She is my friend and ally,” Martin expressed.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, following Rose’s remarks, Martin stated, “I have always been a fighter. My life reflects that in every way, and now I fight for others.”
Martin noted, “Over the past few days, I have seen several people attack my friend Sidney Sweeney. Sid not only worked hard for this film but also for me, for my story, and for many others who are suffering in silence.”
She reiterated, “So I want to be clear about who Sid is. She is my friend and ally!”
While Martin didn’t name those slandering Sweeney, the White Lotus star has faced backlash recently for defending her stance during an interview, despite ongoing attacks from critics.
Rose had criticized Sweeney for her performance in Christie, which didn’t perform well at the box office, and bizarrely suggested that Sweeney “hates” LGBTQ individuals.
There’s no evidence to support the claim that Sweeney harbors any ill feelings toward the LGBTQ community. This accusation appears alongside other odd claims, including labeling Sweeney a “white supremacist” simply for appearing in a jeans ad.
