She Said What People Feel, That They’re ‘Constricted’

On Friday’s NewsNation broadcast of “The Hill,” Rep. Gabe Amo (D-RI) responded to a question about whether Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris supports price controls, saying Harris’ economic speech “expresses how Americans are feeling. Americans are feeling constrained, they feel like they don’t have the freedom to thrive in this economy.”

“So let’s talk about the vice president’s plan and so-called corporate price gouging,” host Blake Berman said. The Washington Post and The New York Times Democrats might say the policy has failed. Here’s some of what they said today. Opinion articles“If people are going to call you a ‘communist,’ why not propose price controls?” said Jason Furman, Barack Obama’s former chief economist. said“This is not smart policy. Our best hope is that it ends up being just rhetoric with no substance,” said a top Democratic economist. “And is this just rhetoric? After all, these are price controls, aren’t they?”

Amo responded, “I think what we heard from the Vice President today is an expression of how the American people feel. The American people feel stymied, they feel like they don’t have the freedom to thrive in this economy. So, overall, what the Vice President has proposed is certainly an agenda to promote opportunity and a set of policies for people across this country. But it’s also a response to the stories that we’ve heard over the last few years that not all Americans are benefiting from the booming economy. So, as someone who grew up in a middle-class family, when you look at home buying, affordability, the child tax credit, as we know it in the American Rescue Plan, it reduced child poverty in this country by 50 percent. That’s what we’re focused on.”

Berman then cut in to ask about tax details.
