Shedeur Sanders addresses Trump criticizing NFL teams during the draft.

Shedeur Sanders Responds to Trump’s Support After NFL Draft

Shedeur Sanders expressed appreciation for President Donald Trump’s supportive comments following his unexpected drop in the NFL draft. Sanders, the son of former Colorado quarterback Deion Sanders, was anticipated to be a first-round pick but instead was selected in the fifth round by Cleveland.

Trump, in a social media post dated April 25, criticized the NFL team owners, questioning their judgment. “What’s going on with those owners? Are they clueless?” he remarked. He highlighted Deion Sanders not just as a talented college player but also as an effective coach, praising his son’s potential: “Shedeur has amazing talent and everything is in place for success.” It’s kind of surprising, right?

When approached by reporters at a practice session for the Browns’ Rookie Mini Camp, Shedeur mentioned he felt grateful for the President’s remarks. “There have been so many people reaching out—fans, even folks at the barbershop,” he noted with a hint of enthusiasm.

The circumstances surrounding Sanders’ draft position generated considerable buzz this year. Initially projected to be picked within the top three, he eventually was taken 144th overall after the Browns moved up in the draft.

As he settles into his role, Sanders is gearing up to compete in a crowded quarterback lineup. Notably, Cleveland also selected Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel, making Sanders the fifth signal-caller on the team’s roster. During practice on Friday, he matched Gabriel’s performance closely, though head coach Kevin Stefanski played down the competition’s significance.
