Shedeur Sanders cited for reportedly driving 101 mph

Shedeur Sanders didn’t quite kick off his time in Cleveland the way he might have hoped.

Earlier this week, the 23-year-old Browns rookie quarterback was pulled over for speeding. Reports suggest he was allegedly driving over 100 mph in a suburban area of Cleveland.

According to the Strongsville Police Department, he was stopped just after midnight on Tuesday, going 41 mph above the speed limit.

Now, Sanders has the choice to either pay a fine of $250 or contest the ticket in court on July 3.

The son of NFL great Deion Sanders was behind the wheel of a 2025 Dodge pickup truck with Colorado plates at the time he was stopped, which occurred around 12:24 am. Bodycam footage reveals that the traffic stop went smoothly, with one officer even noting that Sanders was “cool” with him.

From what the footage showed, it seemed like Sanders didn’t realize how fast he was going. He was heard saying something along the lines of, “I was going 100% faster, it’s all on camera, man.”

Interestingly, police mentioned they’d give a break to a woman who was clocked at 92 mph; however, they couldn’t extend the same consideration to Sanders at the higher speed they recorded.

Drafted in the fifth round, Sanders saw his stock drop from being a potential first pick. He was one of two quarterbacks the Browns selected in this year’s draft, the other being Oregon’s Dilon Gabriel, who went in the third round.

He later tweeted his disappointment with how the pre-draft evaluations went, although some analysts argued he was treated unfairly during that period. Currently, the competition in the Browns’ quarterback room is fierce, making it unclear who will take the starting position in 2025.

In an online video, Sanders appeared engaging with kids at Browns Mini Camp this week, who were curious about his playing status compared to Joe Flacco.

“We first won a season,” he mentioned, keeping the atmosphere light.

Miles Garrett, a standout for the Browns, shared his impressions of Sanders after observing him at camp. He commented, “He came to camp with a great attitude. He is a hardworking guy who approaches things with a positive outlook.”

Garrett added, “It’s nice to work with people who have that kind of enthusiasm.”
