Chedur Sanders has had a pretty chaotic offseason, which took another downturn with two speeding tickets. The first incident saw him clocked at 91 mph in a 65 mph zone, and just two weeks later, he was driving 101 in a 60 mph zone. He hasn’t shown up in court for either of these offenses.
Sanders claims he’s learned from these experiences, and it sounds like he’s also taken some lessons from general manager Andrew Berry.
Berry remarked on the situation, stating, “It’s not smart. It’s just not smart.” He emphasized that they’ve been working with Sanders to help him understand the implications of his actions, echoing that it’s not just about himself; it can affect others too.
Interestingly, Sanders has been managing these legal troubles while also participating in teammate David Ng-hyuk’s charity softball game recently.
In his own words, Sanders reflected, “I personally made some wrong choices and I can own them. It’s not a great choice… I’ve learned.” Currently, he’s in competition for the starting quarterback position with the Cleveland Browns, who selected him in the fifth round after what many considered an unexpected drop during the NFL Draft.
Initially, he was considered a potential top-five pick but ended up going in the later rounds. This was particularly notable since some quarterbacks picked before him included a fellow teammate.
As it stands, he’s primarily taking practice snaps with Saad Sternger, and the chances of him landing the starting role appear slim for now. Among Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and the aforementioned teammate, he’s the only one who hasn’t yet taken a snap with the first team.
