Rex Ryan Responds to Chedur Sanders’ Comments
Former NFL head coach Rex Ryan had a heated reaction to Cleveland Browns quarterback Chedur Sanders’ recent remarks regarding quarterbacks in the league. Sanders claimed last week that he could “do better” than the current starters. Yet, during a game on Sunday, he didn’t play, as the Detroit Lions finished with a strong 34-10 win over the Browns. Dillon Gabriel got some playing time after Joe Flacco was taken out.
On ESPN’s “Get Up,” Ryan suggested that something was lacking in Sanders’ commentary. He said, “This kid talks and runs his mouth. He said, ‘I can be the starting quarterback.’ Well, if you’re so confident, put in the effort and prove it.” Ryan seemed pretty emphatic, indicating that if he knows about Sanders’ potential, the entire league does, too.
Ryan further urged Sanders to stop making excuses, saying, “You should be embarrassed that you’re not a quarterback now.” It’s still uncertain what decision head coach Kevin Stefanski will make regarding the starting quarterback. While Gabriel has already thrown a touchdown, Sanders remains eager to hit the field.
The Browns are set to face the Minnesota Vikings next in an international match in London.
