Shedeur Sanders seems to be encountering some challenges within the quarterback competition for the Browns.
TJ Houshmandzadeh has indicated that the 23-year-old Sanders is trailing in a four-way competition for the QB spot this offseason, along with veteran Joe Flacco, who is also reportedly near the bottom of the pack.
Houshmandzadeh, a former NFL wide receiver known for his tenure with the Bengals, suggests that the battle has really come down to either Dillon Gabriel or Kenny Pickett, despite earlier reports of Sanders and Flacco performing well during mini-camp.
“Someone in the building said I’m not really a player,” Houshmandzadeh remarked on the Night Cap Podcast. “It’s really narrowing down to Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel. That’s what I’ve been told. But then I hear that Shedeur completed 7 of 9 passes—was that against starters?”
“Or was he up against third and fourth-string players? So, I mean, it looks good on paper, but who were the defenders?”
He also agreed with Browns wide receiver Diontae Johnson, suggesting that Pickett will likely be the starter in week one.
Interestingly, Johnson, the only Browns player to speak up about the quarterback race, has weighed in on the situation.
Houshmandzadeh’s comments come just days after it was reported that Sanders allegedly received a speeding ticket while driving over 100 miles per hour in suburban Cleveland.
According to records, Sanders was pulled over by the Strongsville Police on June 17 for driving at 101 mph, which exceeds the speed limit by 41 mph.
At 12:24 AM, Sanders was reportedly in a 2025 Dodge Pickup when he was stopped.
“You were going 100% faster. It’s all on camera, man,” the officer could be heard telling another individual.
In a lighter vein, Sanders’ brother, Shiro, had some fun with the incident in a YouTube video, joking about needing to take care on the streets if Shedeur is around.
