Shedeur Sanders likens himself to Tom Brady after surprising drop to the fifth round in the NFL draft.

Chedur Sanders Draws Comparisons to Legends

During the Browns’ Rookie Minicamp, Chedur Sanders discussed advice he received from Tom Brady after being selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. He appeared quite self-assured about his journey.

“My story will be similar,” Sanders mentioned to reporters.

“Being a late-round pick doesn’t really matter anymore. What mattered was draft day.”

Brady, renowned for being the 199th pick in the 2000 draft (sixth round), has gone on to become an NFL legend, holding records for seven Super Bowl victories, passing yards, and touchdowns.

Interestingly, Sanders, who was projected to be picked in the third round by the Giants, ended up falling significantly to 144 overall. The Browns decided to trade up to acquire him after selecting quarterback Dilongabriel in the third round.

What adds another layer to this story is Brady’s role as a minority owner of the Raiders, which some speculated might have influenced Sanders’ draft position. However, Brady clarified that he allowed general manager John Spitectech to handle the draft decisions.

“That’s a good question,” Brady remarked regarding Sanders’ draft slide during an appearance on the “Impulse” podcast. “I wasn’t involved in the evaluation process. It’s a media issue. Everyone has their opinions. I know him well, so I actually reached out to Chedur.”

Interestingly, it seemed like Sanders had already turned that message into motivation before his second practice.

After Sanders was picked, the Raiders went on to select North Dakota State quarterback Cammiller in the sixth round instead.

To add perspective, Brady faced Chedur’s father, Deion Sanders, who is also a Hall of Fame head coach.
