Shedeur Sanders’ Impressive Earnings Despite Draft Disappointment
Shedeur Sanders may not have achieved the desired first-round pick during the 2025 NFL Draft, but the Cleveland Browns quarterback still found a financial boost from an unexpected source.
Through his endorsement deal with the NFL Players Association, Sanders reportedly earned a staggering $17.7 million in group licensing revenue for the 2025 season. This revenue stems from fans buying jerseys, trading cards, and various collectibles, marking a significant milestone.
Interestingly, Sanders’ earnings surpassed those of NFL legend Tom Brady, who made $9.5 million in the 2021-22 period.
Currently, Sanders’ contract with the Browns is worth just over $1 million per season, amounting to a total of about $4.647 million for his four-year rookie deal. It’s worth noting that he faced an unexpected wait during the draft, not being selected until the third day when the Browns finally picked him. It was a dramatic fall, especially considering his status leading up to the event.
Cleveland also drafted fellow Heisman finalist Dillon Gabriel from Oregon State in the third round, ahead of Sanders, which only added to the narrative of his draft slide.
Despite this, Sanders maintains a solid fanbase, a fact reflected in merchandise sales and other financial aspects. Reports even suggest his total earnings for rookie season could exceed $20 million when considering various endorsement deals he likely secured upon entering the league.
Entering the NFL came with high expectations for Sanders, both from fans and analysts, eager to see if he could thrive at the highest level. However, he initially found himself waiting in the wings, as veteran quarterback Joe Flacco was set to start for the Browns under head coach Kevin Stefanski for the beginning of the 2025 season.
Finally, in Week 12, Sanders made his debut as the starter against the Las Vegas Raiders, earning a 24-10 victory. He completed 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards, including a touchdown, although he did throw an interception. Following this game, Coach Stefanski decided to keep Sanders as the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, aiming to help the rookie grow despite the team’s lack of playoff contention. Over his seven starts, Sanders threw for 1,400 yards, with seven touchdowns and ten interceptions, finishing with a 3-4 record.
Looking ahead, the excitement continues for Sanders, though 2026 will present challenges as he competes for a starting position. Deshaun Watson, now fully healthy, is also in the mix, participating in practice with the Browns under new head coach Todd Monken.
