Shedur Sanders has his father’s back.
After former Colorado safety calls out Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders In an interview with The AthleticSchedul attacked the defensive back on social media.
The Buffaloes signal-caller told X, citing a post from the outlet, that he threw some shade at Smith and basically learned who the safety was.
“Ion remembers him too. Brothers had to be average at best.” Sanders wrote on Tuesday..
In an interview with The Athletic, Smith talked about a meeting he had with Colorado’s coaching staff after the team’s spring game in April 2023.
The result was that the defender should not return to Boulder.
The announcement comes as Sanders is using the transfer portal to overhaul the entire program in order to bring in new players.
“We were sitting on the couch and he was talking to us and he wasn’t even looking at us,” Smith told The Athletic. “Looking [Defensive coordinator Charles Kelly] It was dead in his eyes. [Sanders] He said he felt I should hit the portal. He didn’t want me to waste a year thinking I could earn a spot.
“In fact, I was so angry that I cried, because, brother, you didn’t even try to get to know me.”
Smith added that the way Sanders handled the entire situation of telling players to leave the program wasn’t necessarily the most graceful.

“He was destroying the players’ confidence and belief in themselves,” Smith added. “The way he did it, he could have done it with a little more consideration.”
Smith, who was with the program in 2022, was not brought back and ultimately entered the transfer portal, landing with Austin Peay.
Sanders was criticized by many others when he made wholesale changes to Colorado’s 2023 roster, including Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi.
“That’s not true. [transfer portal] The rules were meant to be,” Narduzzi said. Brandon Marcello at the 2023 ACC Spring Meetings. “It wasn’t a complete overhaul of the roster. We’ll see what happens, but to me, I think that’s a bad thing for college football coaches across the country.”
Things seemed to go well for Colorado at first, as they started the year 3-0 and finished in the top 25 in the rankings.
However, the Buffaloes struggled in the second half and finished the season with 4 wins and 8 losses.
Dion and Shedour will be back next season when Colorado State plays its first season in the Big 12.
Smith had 75 tackles, one sack, and one fumble recovery in his first year with Austin Peay.
