Shedeur Sanders update: Quarterback skipped pregame press duty, analyst reports

Negative attention surrounding Chedur Sanders has recently intensified. The former Colorado quarterback experienced a significant drop during last week’s NFL Draft, falling to the fifth round despite previous predictions placing him in the top five overall.

In the days leading up to the draft, discussions about Sanders’ relationship with his coach began to circulate. Reports indicated that his official interview was described as “the worst,” and during this, he insisted that he was “qualified.”

Additionally, there were indications that Sanders seemed disinterested during meetings, especially with the New York Giants. CBS analyst Ross Tucker recalled a moment when Sanders missed an important appointment that he “should have attended.” Typically, prominent quarterbacks like him interact with broadcasters prior to games, but he skipped a meeting before a game against Colorado.

Originally, Sanders was slated to speak with CBS on a Wednesday but had to postpone due to an injury. However, he didn’t attend the rescheduled meeting either. Tucker expressed, “We weren’t given an explanation, but it was odd not to have Chedur at the production meeting. It’s not typical for well-known quarterbacks to miss these opportunities.”

Tucker also reflected on the uncertainty surrounding Sanders’ behavior, noting, “I wondered if there were more stories like this, where he acted in an unconventional manner.” This pattern may have played a role in how teams perceived him during the draft process.

Ultimately, Sanders was selected 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns. His draft slide began when the New York Giants traded up to pick Jackson Dirt at 25. By the second day, three other quarterbacks—Tyler Shaw, Jalen Milllow, and Dillon Gabriel—were taken, with Gabriel also landing with the Browns.

In the quarterback room, the Browns now feature Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett alongside Sanders.
