Shedeur Sanders upset after being benched by the Browns in preseason victory

Shedeur Sanders’ Preseason Experience with the Browns

Shedeur Sanders seemed a bit frustrated following a preseason game with the Cleveland Browns on Saturday night. Curious about his mood, we dug a little deeper.

The Browns managed to secure a 19-17 victory, thanks to Tyler Huntley’s impressive performance leading a game-winning drive. However, Huntley was soon released from the Browns’ roster despite his efforts.

In his debut in front of Cleveland fans, Sanders didn’t exactly shine. He was sacked five times and found it tough to get into a rhythm with the team’s offense.

Sanders expressed that he wanted to be on the field for the final moments of the game, eager to lead the Browns to a pivotal field goal. Head coach Kevin Stefanski opted for Huntley, who finished the game instead.

“In those moments, you want to be that dominant player,” Sanders reflected. “Of course, it can be frustrating when you’re sidelined, especially when you want to step up and help the team.”

Despite his challenges, Sanders is confident about making the final roster. Although he took the field during the second half, he was on his exercise bike when he realized he wasn’t going back into the game.

“I wasn’t even aware I was out,” he said. “I was gearing up for that two-minute drill, thinking to myself, ‘This is what every quarterback dreams of.’ So when I found out I wouldn’t be on the field, it was a bit surprising.”

Stefanski defended his choice to stick with Huntley, noting he was the only quarterback to play through all three preseason games with the Browns. Huntley was brought in after both Kenny Pickett and third-round pick Dillon Gabriel, with Sanders being selected in the second round back in April.

“We didn’t play particularly well offensively in the second half,” Stefanski acknowledged. “It’s not solely on any individual, but we aimed to improve in various areas, and giving Snoop a final shot made sense.”

There’s chatter among fans that Sanders is facing hurdles from the Browns’ management. However, Stefanski dismissed those thoughts, emphasizing his commitment to Sanders’ growth like he does for all rookies.

The Browns have named Joe Flacco, a 41-year-old veteran from the Cincinnati Bengals, and it’s uncertain who will back him up. It’s anticipated that Pickett might return to the Browns earlier than expected, with Stefanski hoping for his availability by week one.

As NFL teams prepare to finalize their 53-man rosters by 4 PM ET on Tuesday, fans will soon learn the Browns’ plans for Sanders and the quarterback situation moving forward.
