Protests Amid Controversy: Sheriff Ivy and Lizzo Exchange Words

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivy has been spreading a warning, largely through informal channels, urging protesters to steer clear of violent methods. Recently, he found himself at odds with pop star Lizzo, who seemingly misinterpreted his remarks from a viral video.

Before the “king” protests that erupted nationwide, Ivy and Florida Attorney General James Usmair addressed the issue at a press briefing. Ivy was quite firm, saying, “We will inform your family where we will throw bricks or fire bombs, and direct our guns at one of our agents.”

Lizzo seemed to call out this statement in a social media post, expressing her thoughts on the matter.

She remarked, “I saw a law enforcement video saying they would kill anyone exercising their First Amendment rights to protest. I’ve never encountered something so unconstitutional in my life” in a video she posted on Instagram.

Continuing her message, she added, “We do not serve the king. We do not serve the dictator. We’ve fought and died for the right to vote for us, and those who protect us.” She stressed the importance of remembering our constitutional rights, suggesting that those in protective roles need to uphold them.

In response, Sheriff Ivy expressed disappointment that Lizzo appeared to misunderstand his initial comments. “Who is Rizzo?” he questioned, noting he had just heard of her that evening. He pointed out that she clearly didn’t grasp the essence of what he said during the press conference, as her quote was misaligned with his actual words.

He clarified, “No one has ever peacefully exercised their right to amend their rights to amend theirs. What I actually said is that peaceful protests are part of our democracy, and we aim to create a safe environment for them. My warnings were aimed at violent protesters who could jeopardize citizens and law enforcement officers.”

Fox News Digital attempted to get a comment from Lizzo’s management but had not received a response at the time of reporting.
