Sherri Shepherd Supports Jenny McCarthy’s Comments on “The View”
Sherri Shepherd, a former co-host of “The View,” recently backed her friend and ex-panelist, Jenny McCarthy, following McCarthy’s remarks during a podcast appearance. In a recent episode of “Katie Miller Podcast,” McCarthy expressed she would only consider returning to “The View” “over my dead body.”
Shepherd, speaking on her show “Shelly,” echoed McCarthy’s sentiments, stating, “Everything Jenny says is absolutely true.” Shepherd recalled how both she and McCarthy were brought on to lighten the show’s atmosphere but noticed the swift shift towards politics. “It’s not a secret that Jenny McCarthy hated being on ‘The View,'” Shepherd said. She reminisced about McCarthy’s distress when the show transitioned into political discussions. “I remember the day it changed—Jenny came right into my dressing room, frantic about what she should do,” Shepherd recalled.
McCarthy, who was part of Season 17, indicated she has no plans to return to the talk show, despite requests for reunion appearances. “They wanted me back for reunion shows,” she mentioned. “I thought I’d only step foot in that place again beyond my own corpse.”
Reflecting on her initial hiring in 2013, McCarthy noted that they wanted her to help tone down the polarizing nature of the show. “They brought me in because it was too much,” she explained. But soon enough, that light-hearted approach crumbled as discussions gravitated back toward serious political matters.
Shepherd expressed empathy for McCarthy, highlighting the irony that the intention was to promote a more enjoyable atmosphere instead of political disputes. “They wanted the show to be calmer, more fun,” she shared, adding that focus group feedback had initially favored that direction. However, that quickly changed, leading to awkward moments on the show. “Two weeks later, I saw someone wearing glasses, and I thought, ‘Why do you look so conservative?'” she recounted, pointing out the absurdity of the situation.
Shepherd also shared her own struggles when she joined the show, saying they wanted her to be upbeat and discuss motherhood. But as politics began to dominate, “all we talked about was politics,” she said, noting how challenging that was for her given her upbringing.
Despite the challenges, Shepherd reflected positively on her time on “The View.” “It was one of the best, hardest, scariest, most tearful experiences of my life,” she concluded, cherishing the friendships made along the way.
As for ABC, they have yet to respond to inquiries about the matter.
