Sherrone Moore steps down as head coach in Michigan

Michigan Wolverines Fire Head Coach Sherrone Moore

In a surprising turn of events, the Michigan Wolverines decided to overhaul their football program on Wednesday, letting go of head coach Sherrone Moore for cause.

According to Michigan’s athletic director, Ward Manuel, “We have uncovered credible evidence indicating that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”

Manuel further stated, “This conduct clearly violates university policy, and the University of Michigan will not tolerate such behavior.”

In the meantime, Biff Poggi has been appointed as the interim head coach.

Sherrone Moore is married to Kelly, and they have three daughters together. He took over as head coach after Jim Harbaugh departed for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024, following an 8-5 season which concluded with a win at the LilliaQuest Bowl.

This past season, the Wolverines showed improvement, finishing with a 9-3 record, though they experienced a setback against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Moore has not publicly commented on his dismissal.

Before stepping up as head coach, he served various roles, including tight ends coach from 2018 to 2020 and offensive line coach from 2021 to 2023. He briefly held the position of offensive coordinator in 2023 and stepped in as head coach for one game during Harbaugh’s suspension.

Notably, he was part of the coaching staff during the team’s national championship win.
