Sherrone Moore’s Legal Issues Following Job Loss
Sherrone Moore’s wife called 911, expressing worries that he was “trying to commit suicide” after losing his coaching position at the University of Michigan, according to a recording of the call released by The Detroit News.
During a court hearing on Friday, prosecutors stated that Moore had a “long-standing close relationship” with the victim, who ended things with him just that Monday.
The victim reportedly mentioned that Moore had held a knife to his throat and drove away afterward. Furthermore, it was revealed that he left the scene with several knives.
Michigan’s athletic director, Ward Manuel, indicated in a statement that there was credible evidence of Moore having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Following his arraignment on charges of burglary and stalking, Moore’s alleged behavior included contacting the woman via phone and text after their breakup, urging her to cooperate with the university’s investigation. Prosecutors claim that this led him to show up at her home.
The audio also implicated Moore in “stalking” the victim for “several months.” In a particularly alarming episode, he allegedly “broke into” her home shortly after his dismissal and threatened her with a butter knife and kitchen shears while expressing, “My blood is on your hands” and “You ruined my life.”
Post-arrest, Moore underwent a mental health evaluation before being jailed. A judge set his bail at $25,000, with several stipulations such as mandatory mental health treatment, wearing a GPS device, no contact with the victim, and remaining within Michigan’s borders.
Moore’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 22.
