Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-California) announced she would be running for re-election in 2024, to the shock and amusement of critics who noted that she was already 83 years old.
Pelosi made the official announcement Friday afternoon on social media.
“Now, more than ever, our city needs to promote San Francisco values and rebuild more. America needs to show the world it’s there,” said Pelosi, who was first elected to Congress in 1987.
“That’s why I’m running for re-election. Please vote with respect,” she added.

The former speaker’s announcement sparked mixed reactions across social media, and “she’s 83” started trending. Considering 80-year-old President Biden and his stumbling block and 81-year-old Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and his frieze, age has become a trending narrative these days.

But Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Jamie Harrison was overjoyed by Pelosi’s announcement.

Pelosi’s decision comes at a time when many Republicans have made similar allegations against McConnell, arguing that he should step down after the freeze.

But McConnell has made it clear that he has no intention of retiring.
According to a recent survey, economist/YouGov finds most American adults express The belief that there should be a “maximum age” to be president or a member of Congress.
Pelosi will turn 84 in March.
