Shinedown withdraws from Rock the Country festival as upset fans criticize 'woke' choice to cancel

Shinedown has decided to withdraw from the Rock the Country Festival, leading to significant backlash from fans.

On Friday, the band announced their sudden decision to exit the festival, which was described as a “celebration of community, tradition, and the spirit that has defined America for 250 years.” They shared this on X, emphasizing their mission to “unite, not divide.”

“Shinedown is everyone’s band,” the statement indicated. “We’ve been given a platform to bring everyone together through music. There’s only one boss of us, and that’s the whole audience.”

“Our purpose is to unite, not divide. With this in mind, we have chosen not to perform at Rock the Country Festival,” the band stated.

They acknowledged that this choice might cause division. “But we don’t want to partake in anything that might further divide people,” they added.

The announcement sparked a considerable amount of negative feedback on social media.

One commenter expressed disappointment, saying, “How can being patriotic be divisive? You lost respect by pulling out. Stand firm and stop catering to everyone. The real boss is Jesus Christ, not the audience.”

Another user remarked, “Your words about unity don’t align with your actions. Is it true that you are choosing not to perform to satisfy a ‘woke mob’? That’s division. If you truly play for everyone, that’s unity. Too bad. I was a fan,” they shared.

A third individual added that the band could have kept their political views private. “He could have maintained his politics behind the scenes. This is unfortunate and disappointing,” they commented.

Even some supporters of Shinedown seemed confused by the announcement, with one writing, “I love you all, but this is a poor public relations move.”

Shinedown, which includes members Zach Myers, Brent Smith, Eric Bass, and Barry Karch, was slated to perform at the festival in Anderson, South Carolina on July 25th and 26th.

Reports suggest that the band’s exit followed the withdrawal of Carter Faith and Morgan Wade.

Rock the Country is set to tour several states throughout 2026, including Georgia, Texas, Florida, and New York.

Artists like Jelly Roll, Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Ella Langley, Brooks & Dunn, Jon Pardi, Brantley Gilbert, and Hank Williams Jr. are expected to perform at various events.

The festival marks the 250th anniversary of American independence, offering a chance to reflect on community strength, the stories that shaped it, and lasting moments beyond the performances.
