Cher spent years not knowing her real name.
The singer wrote in her memoir, released Nov. 19, how “shocked” she was when she decided to make the legal change. [her] Name it simply Cher. ”
“Sherilyn believed that,” the Grammy winner wrote in “Cher: The Memoir, Part 1.” [her] Name”, which was actually listed on her birth certificate as “Cheryl”.
Cher's mother, Georgia Holt, begged her daughter to “give it to me.” [her] After discovery, take a break.”
“I was in a lot of pain because I was just a teenager,” the late actress said of giving birth to Cher in May 1946.
The songwriter says: “My mother didn't know anything.” [what to name me],but, [nurse] She replied, “Well, Lana Turner is my favorite actress and her little girl is called Cheryl.” My mother's name is Linda, but what about Cherilyn? ? ”
However, Cher was “officially registered as Cheryl.”
She realized this in 1979 when she changed her name to “Just Cher'' and took on four last names: her father John Paul Sarkisian, her stepfather Gilbert LaPierre, her ex-husbands Gregg Allman and Sonny Bono. That's when I threw it away.
“I'd rather people not know whether to call me Mrs. Allman or Mrs. Bono or Mrs. Bono Allman or Miss Cher or what to call me. That's a good thing for me,” she explained on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” at the time.
“I love it,” the pop goddess continued. “I mean, Cher is fine. It's just Cher.”
In her memoir, Cher revealed everything from the details of her dark relationship with Bono to the ups and downs of her and Allman's short-lived marriage.
She also said that Val Kilmer was the only former partner she had broken up with.
Additionally, the Oscar winner wrote a story about losing his virginity. She considered it a case of “revenge sex”.
Cher writes that after a neighbor boy “dumped” her after a kiss, she decided to “lend him my virginity.”
She explained: “When it turned out to be a highly overrated experience, I asked him, 'Is that the end? Is it over already? 'Then I told him to go home and never come back. ”
