John R. Lott, Jr., director of the Crime Prevention Research Center, stumbled across some very sketchy data released by the FBI.
“Everyone remembers the infamous fact-check from the presidential debates where when Donald Trump was talking about increasing crime rates, ABC News said, 'According to the FBI, crime rates are not increasing.' '' says Liz Wheeler of “The Liz Wheeler.'' Show,” he says to John.
“This turns out to be a mistake,” she added.
“The FBI releases the previous year's data every September, and just by comparing the Excel files released for last year and this year, and for 2022 and 2023, you can see that there have been major changes in the data. '' he explains.
“They put a footnote saying they have revised or perhaps updated the 2022 data, but beyond that they say nothing about the changes,” he added.
While ABC News' moderator of the debate between former President Trump and Vice President Harris, David Muir, cited this data statistic, John told Wheeler that the FBI had “accompanied more than 880,000 violent crimes. I missed it,” he said.
“They missed 1,699 murders, they missed more than 10,000 rapes, they missed 33,000 robberies, they missed 37,000 aggravated assaults, and they didn't include 198,000 property crimes in their numbers. property crimes were overlooked,” he explains.
“So what does it mean to say that 1,699 murders were missed?”
“Well, it's kind of a black box. They don't explain what happened, they just provide data,” he says.
“It's so deceptive. And this is because every time over the past year conservatives have said, 'Look, our cities are facing population growth,' the mainstream media and the left have told us, I think it's also a good reminder of what I've been telling you this is a form of gaslighting. We have violent crime happening where our neighborhoods are less safe,' and the left says, 'Oh, violent crime is going down,''' Wheeler commented.
“We have to follow our intuition,” she continues. “We know that violent crime rates are not going down.”
