The website, launched in 2021, drew in over 1.8 million users before being taken down on March 11, 2025. Law enforcement has apprehended 79 individuals connected to the site, with over 1,400 additional suspects identified. Among the arrested individuals were not only consumers but also direct abusers.

Operation Stream: A significant victory against child exploitation

The operation Stream, led by German authorities, has been termed as one of the most crucial crackdowns on child pornography in recent times, as stated by Guido Limmer, deputy director of the Bavarian Criminal Police.

A collective of 36 nations, including the UK, has united in the effort to dismantle Kidflix. The platform endorses abuse on an unparalleled level, with an average of 3.5 new videos uploaded every hour, showcasing material previously unseen by researchers.

Differing from most child exploitation websites, Kidflix permitted users to stream and download abusive content. This operation was highly organized and lucrative, with users accumulating tokens by purchasing access through cryptocurrency, categorizing videos, and uploading fresh material.

Europol’s Executive Director Catherine de Bolle emphasized the escalating digital peril of child exploitation, stating:

“Some individuals attempt to perceive this as merely a technical or cyber issue, but that’s not accurate. Real victims exist behind these offenses, and those victims are children.”

Children rescued during the investigation

As a component of the operation, German authorities intervened 96 times to safeguard children from ongoing abuse. In 12 instances, severe exploitation was effectively curtailed. Overall, 39 children were protected throughout the investigation.

Senior prosecutor Thomas Gauger disclosed that most identified suspects range from 20 to 40 years old, with an average age of 31. The oldest user was in their 70s, while the youngest was born in 2006. Many had been long-time participants on the dark web.

Authorities will persist in following leads, bringing more offenders to justice, and dismantling similar networks.
