Price of Shohei Ohtani Jersey Soars

The auction for Shohei Ohtani’s jersey, worn during the 2026 World Baseball Classic, saw its final price shoot up dramatically, much like a ball hit from Ohtani’s bat. This jersey, from the game against Chinese Taipei on March 6 at Tokyo Dome, fetched an astonishing $1,500,010, making it the highest amount ever paid for an Ohtani jersey.

That night, Ohtani wasn’t just playing; he was electrifying. He hit a grand slam, scoring five runs and transforming the WBC matchup into what felt like a national festivity. The jersey captured the essence of that moment—the enthusiastic cheers from fans, the flickering flashes of cameras, and the immense expectations placed on him in a country that holds him in almost reverent regard.

This excitement didn’t go unnoticed by collectors.

In just seven days, 298 bids rolled in, with many vying for more than just ownership; they were after a piece of greatness. Interestingly, the final bid was significantly less than the $126,000 paid for a jersey from the 2023 WBC.

That earlier jersey was worn by Ohtani during the championship game where he famously struck out teammate Mike Trout to secure the title for Team Japan, a moment that still resonates in WBC history.

Unfortunately for Japan, their journey in the 2026 tournament was cut short in the quarterfinals against Venezuela. So, rather than being a trophy, the jersey has now become a memento of a remarkable moment early in the tournament.

Ohtani memorabilia continues to capture attention in the sports market. His logoman baseball card was recently appraised at $3 million. Another dual MVP card with Aaron Judge sold for $2.16 million. There’s also the historic ball from the 2024 season that went for $4.39 million. Plus, the ball from Ohtani’s legendary three-homer, ten-strikeout game in the 2025 NL CS fetched $270,000. When you combine those elements, their total could exceed $1 million.

As the Dodgers prepare to kick off their season at Dodger Stadium, Ohtani will return to the plate, ready to create more memorable moments. And, somewhere behind the glass, that $1.5 million jersey waits—perhaps not as valuable as what’s yet to come.
