Attack in Mexico City Claims Lives of Officials
In a shocking incident, two senior officials were murdered by gunmen in Mexico City, stirring deep unrest within the highest echelons of the government. This killing happened just days after a group of gunmen from Jalisco murdered two police instructors linked to the U.S. State Department.
The attack occurred Tuesday morning on Tularpan Avenue in the Benito Juarez district. The assailants approached the victims’ vehicle, opened fire, and then fled the scene on a bike, all before authorities could react. Surveillance footage captured the chaotic moments of the attack.
The victims have been identified as Ximena Guzman and Jose Munoz. Guzman served as a personal assistant to Clara Bulgada, the mayor of Mexico City, while Munoz was a senior advisor within the local government.
Following the incident, President Claudia Sheinbaum received information about the shooting during a morning press conference. The assassinations have sparked considerable debate in Mexico, primarily due to the profiles of the victims and the motivations behind the killings.
Curiously, this incident follows the shooting of two security guards in Jalisco, which is believed to be linked to the same group of assailants. Reports indicate that these instructors had previous ties with the U.S. State Department as advisors for international drug and law enforcement matters.
