One person lost their life, and four others were injured during a shooting at an outdoor concert in Kentucky on Saturday.
This tragic event took place in Lexington, not far from a dinner hosted by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear for the state’s Democratic Party.
Among the injured were two children, aged 14 and 4, as well as two adults. Fortunately, all four were taken to a nearby hospital and their injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.
Upon learning of the incident, Beshear addressed his dinner guests, saying, “Before I continue, I need to let you all know that we have some tough news tonight.”
He mentioned that a shooting occurred roughly a mile and a half away, stating, “We believe there are five people injured and possibly one fatality,” while reassuring attendees that the situation was under control.
Beshear emphasized the need for electing leaders who take action to prevent mass shootings, saying, “To stop mass shootings, we have to elect Democrats who actually do something about mass shootings.”
The shooting took place at Charles Young Park around 6:45 p.m., though details about the victims, the deceased, or the suspect remain unclear as of now.
As of the following morning, law enforcement had made no arrests, but they assured the public that there was no ongoing threat.
Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers urged the community to report anyone who might have a tendency toward violence, stating, “If you know someone who has a propensity to use a weapon, please do whatever you can to let us know before something happens.”
This incident follows another mass shooting occurrence at Virginia State University earlier on Saturday, where a 19-year-old suspect named Camron Harris was arrested in connection with that attack.
