Teen Takeover Disrupted by Gunfire at Tybee Island
A chaotic scene unfolded at Tybee Island, Georgia, when a group of teenagers engaged in an unauthorized gathering experienced a sudden panic due to gunfire reported along the pier.
The incident began around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, as hundreds congregated at the popular Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion area, a well-known spot in this relaxed beach town. While the pop-up event was ongoing, a single shot rang out, prompting the crowd to scatter.
Footage shared by the local police captured scenes of a large number of teens fleeing the area in distress.
Eyewitnesses described the atmosphere as chaotic. Some visitors nearby recounted their experience, noting the disorder that erupted. “There were about 15 girls outside. They suddenly screamed at us for no reason,” one witness recounted, wishing to remain anonymous. “It felt like a bunch of drunk kids just wandering around.”
Tybee Island detectives, reviewing 911 calls and video evidence, suspect the gunfire may have originated from the beach below. Authorities are seeking two individuals who were reportedly spotted emerging from the darkness beneath the pier. “We think they might have crucial information related to this case,” police stated. They encouraged anyone with information to contact Detective Sam Stuber.
Tybee Island, located roughly 29 miles east of downtown Savannah, is a barrier island along Georgia’s Atlantic coast. Further details are being sought from the Tybee Island Police Department as the investigation continues.
