The shooting just outside Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico killed one airline and another gun was hospitalized early Saturday, the Air Force said.
Members of the 377th Security Force responded to the incident at Truman Gate at Albuquerque Base around 2am on Saturday.
The Air Force said.
The second wounded aviator was shot in his hand and released from hospital, the Air Force said on release.

In the update, the Air Force said the incident led to a base pursuit that led to the shooting.
The Air Force Special Investigation Office is investigating the shooting with the FBI and the Albuquerque Police Department.
The Air Force added that there is no threat to the public.

The military did not reveal the identity of the shooter or say whether anyone was in custody.
Albuquerque police are not looking for any more suspects, police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos told The Associated Press.

The Air Force said the shooting was not related to terrorism, not by outsiders.
