Shooting near Rutgers University sends two to the hospital

An early morning shooting a few blocks from Rutgers University residence halls on Friday left two Rutgers University staff members injured.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at the intersection of Easton Avenue and Hamilton Street in New Brunswick, New Jersey, after an apparent altercation. Rutgers Police Department announced.

When police arrived, they found a male victim, a Rutgers University official, suffering from a gunshot wound, and transported him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. RLS Media reported.

Witnesses at the scene say the unidentified victim got into an argument with the suspect as he approached the victim in his car.

According to RLS Media, the victim provoked the suspect into firing, at which point the unidentified gunman fired several shots and fled the scene.

A woman who lived nearby, who police said was also “affiliated” with the university, was then hit by a stray bullet.

Police said the two victims are currently being treated for their wounds at University Hospital.

Their circumstances are unknown, and it is unclear whether they were students or staff at the school.

The newspaper has requested more information from the New Brunswick Police Department, where officers are searching for the suspect.

They say “the identity of the perpetrator is limited at this time” and are asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
